Do you think that you can do even better if you had more clients?
But It seems so hard to get new clients. There is a very effective way to get clients without spending a penny on marketing and advertising.
In any era, having a well-defined marketing strategy is crucial for your business to grow and gain traction as widely as possible. Â If you need to attract more customers, the first thing you need to do, obviously, is reaching them. Thus, using online marketing to your advantage is key. And hence, this write- up is for you.
As I always say:
“A Good word from your client is the best Marketing Strategy.”
So the best and easiest way that I want to tell you to get new clients without spending a penny would be doing the best job for the current clients. Are you working for rather than worrying about how will you get the next client? If yes, then you are doing it wrong.Â
Client Refreal
Client referral is the strongest way to build trust. If all your clients say nothing but the good words about you then a few years down the lane you can get a lot of new clients while retaining most of the clients that you are working for along this time. You will have an abundance of work and a lot of clients. So don’t worry about the new clients just put in 100% of your heart while working on your current project.

What is Marketing Strategy?
Before we jump on the basics to help you attract more customers, we need to explain what a marketing strategy is. A Marketing strategy refers to a business’s overall game plan for reaching prospective consumers and turning them into customers of the products or services the business provides
To make this happen first of all you need to win the trust of your clients. How can you win the trust of a business owner who has just hired you and you have probably never known him? Chances are you have just met him through the internet and you are never going to meet him/her face to face. It might be a little hard but it surely is not impossible.
I firmly believe, understanding your client is the best Marketing Strategy.
Why is Marketing Strategy important?Â
Many entrepreneurs haven’t (even me in starting) discovered the importance of a marketing strategy. In fact, having a marketing strategy is so useful that you can think of it as having a road map (or a cheat sheet). It will guide you in just about every business decision that you make.
But what exactly does a marketing strategy entail?
In short, your marketing strategy will highlight the path you’re taking to achieve your specific objectives and goals. This may sound simple, and it is. But it’s not always easy to ask the hard questions that come with creating a marketing strategy.
And this is the main reason why many businesses don’t recognize the importance of a marketing strategy.
Like most of the entrepreneurs, I know it’s essential to have a thorough plan of actions to promote a business. However, a lot of them have questions when the time comes to decide on the best strategies.
Before that, you need to know how exactly do you acquire more clients without pulling hair?

Now, I will show you how I do it with my clients and how I retain my buisness –
1. Show a genuine interest in their business
Understand their business with their perspective. No matter how smart you are but you can never beat his experience and direct interaction with his customers and business. So, rather than proposing solutions right away like most of the designers just write it somewhere to present it later, and take a different approach.
Ask some insightful questions, in order to understand his business with the light of his experience and perspective.
Try to understand his goals, objectives, dreams, reasons and so on. Once you will get genuinely interested in his business you will get questions automatically. Trust me, there is no client who is going to deny you talking about his/her business. Because he is the person who is most passionate about his/her business. He/She is the one knows it better than all of us- form core to soul.
You just need to tell him initially that you want to ask questions to understand his business, in order to come up with the best of the solutions that can help him for his business and his objectives. Give clients you come into contact with a good reason to try your services, which is your first step to making them loyal customers or clients.Â
2. Give your best when working for the client
Now that you understand his business with depth, you can come up with the best solutions because you know what is the client like and what are the needs of this business. Question yourself why your solutions would work and what can go wrong with your solution and tweak it to make it more effective. To start off on the right foot with your customers, make sure you’re setting proper expectations
You need to be a self-critique and question your own ideas and execution to make it more effective.
Once you think you have a great solution for your client then don’t just present it right away. Make a good presentation. Because presenting your work and getting it approved is also a science.
Be personal on a professional and cutomise things for them.No one customer is the same as any other. They all have different learning levels and experience, and they come from a wide array of industries.

3. Be Open to listen to what your client has to say and be open to suggestions and feedbacks
Now, as you have presented all your work. Now your client might come back with
- Wow! This is purely amazing
- I think we need changes
- I can be better
- I like it BUT…. (I can feel you!)
- I think you have done a decent job
- I don’t think this is working
In the last case, you need to make the client understand why you think this is the best solution. Don’t just say it with your subjective judgements and suggestions. Always back it up with some actual data, similar examples, etc to make a strong point. Like explain them why this colour suit their Brand identity. Tell them why some specific positioning is done. I am sure in 80% of the cases the client will understand, if you put it in the approapriate way.
Also, don’t forget to ask the client why he/she thinks this won’t work after making your point. You need to listen more to him in order to convince him. There is no better influencing technique than being a good listener. You need to understand all their doubts and problems to solve them. Then finish the work on a good note.
There might be some hard times and friction between you and the client but even the client knows that this kind of situation arises when more than a single mind works on a single problem. The only thing matters are your clients should feel that you were giving the best of your efforts for the best interest of their business.
4. Now Don’t hesitate to ask
In the end, you need to stick for a little longer with the client, and you are going to ask him if there might be a person in his circle who might use your services. and if he says yes to it, you need to tell him to put a good word about you and then you can get their contact details in order to follow up. But make sure that your client calls them first to tell them about their own experience with you and how you can be helpful for their interest.
And if he doesn’t have anyone in his circle that he can contact, on a good closing note tell him genuinely that it was a great experience for you to work with him and ask him to refer your services to anyone if in case someone is in need of the services you are offering. And do let him know that it would be a great help. Try to provide value and establish yourself as having an in-depth understanding of the problems they are looking to solve.
The chances are 200% high once you have asked him to refer people who might want your service.
Teaming up with businesses that offer complementary services offers you the opportunity to take advantage of synergy. It can be very effective in building a business. For instance, if you have a company that specializes in SEO, consider teaming up with a business that builds websites.
5.Host a Webinar/Facebook or Instagram Live
Free webinars or Facebook or Instagram Live introduce your brand and product to a wider audience. The more appealing the topic, the better you’ll attract interest.
It takes time. You’ve got to brainstorm topics, plan the webinar, and spread the word. The benefits, however, are top-notch.
6.Build an Active Social Media Presence
Social media builds trust and expands your reach. In my experience, I’ve received many clients by sharing my design work on Pinterest and Instagram. They key here is to also be a normal human being — not a salesperson. Sprinkle your business into your usual posts, sharing behind the scenes snippets whenever you can. Your clients want to do business with real people and providing your life, coupled with your business, will grow a special kind of trust that will encourage them to work with you.

7. Pump up your SEO
Let us accept digital is the new normal.
It surprises me to this day that many of my past clients found me through Google. I mean, there are plenty of designers in the world — how did Google lead them to me?! You might think that it would be difficult to get clients from search engines for the same reason I did, but if you work hard on your Search Engine Optimization (SEO), then it’s definitely possible! Decide on a few keywords that describe your business (get specific) and pump up that SEO. It has incredible potential to bring you a steady stream of clients who are ready to hire you.
8. Answer Queries on Twitter or LinkdIn
Many people take to Twitter looking for advice and recommendations from their peers. In this tip, you’ll be searching for those people and helping them out.
Try searching for things like:
- #(keyword)help
- Designers
- Hiring a (keyword)
- (keyword) recommendations
It’s very simple, but can be an incredibly effective way to find people who need what you’re selling right now. If they’re asking a question? Answer it! If they’re looking for someone to hire? Be sincere, let them know you can help, and give them a link to your portfolio. Easy peasy, friends!
Conclusion
This is not as easy as it sounds! But trust me this technique have made me good money and it has also resulted in much better interaction. And later, extended relations with my clients. All my clients know that I am really passionate about my work and I am working in the best interest of their business.
If you think there is something that has helped you with your work and clients. Feel free to share it in comments it might be helpful for me and the readers who are seeking advice.
Let’s help each other and make our community even stronger.
